Sezer said the objectives of the 2021-2022 Year of Disaster Education are to change the behaviors of those who have received training, increase awareness of earthquakes and other disasters, and update their knowledge. . About 56 million people received disaster awareness training in 2021 and 94,000 drills took place in 2022.
Sezer noted that “earthquake and evacuation drills” had recently taken place at facilities associated with the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) and at dormitories run by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
A “warning notification” was texted to 66.5 million people on Wednesday regarding the November 12 exercise. This message will be broadcast on Friday and Saturday, accompanied by an audio alert, and announcements will be made in the Friday sermon and on television and radio stations, Sezer said.
Students were also briefed at schools to prepare everyone to participate in the exercise, Sezer pointed out.
He said that during the exercise, the “drop, cover, hold” movement will be performed in the predetermined strong and reliable zones.
“Experts and educators will analyze ‘what we miss, what we encounter in practice’ with the data obtained from the exercise.
“We are very happy at this point because we aim to create disaster awareness across the country, step by step. We are moving forward,” he said.
Sezer said that on the day of the exercise, high-level officials will meet at AFAD headquarters under the chairmanship of Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, and the exercise will be held in 81 provinces and the Republic. Turkish Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
He announced that a live broadcast will be established with TRNC from Düzce, Istanbul, Zmir, Elaz, Kahramanmaraş and Erzurum and that experts will provide information on the earthquake exercise before, during and after it. happened.
Sezer added that mobile simulation trucks will be available across the country and training centers in Istanbul and Bursa will remain open 24 hours a day.
Some 593,000 people have volunteered and are actively participating in the exercises. Officials of our institutions and organizations, accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and site administrators will actively participate in the coordination and evacuation exercise, he said.
